LOCATION WARSAW, POLAND
SIZE ? m²
The new building for the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is situated in the direct vicinity of the Palace of Culture and Science, the highest building in Poland and the most dominant landmark in the skyline of Warsaw.
The masterplan for this area stipulates an ensemble of urban blocks, related in height to the base buildings of the Palace, creating streets and municipal squares around the palace which stood alone with a huge distance to the nearest buildings.
The plot chosen for the Museum of Modern Art is one of the most prominent in this ensemble. In combination with its symmetrical counterpart, it defines the new square in front of the main central entrance of the Palace of Culture and Science. It will simultaneously link the square in the south and a new garden and park area north of the building.
